The Best Incline Treadmills Provide Great Weight Bearing Cardiovascular Workout

The best incline treadmills give a great workout with plenty of benefits for cardiovascular health, and because it is a weight bearing exercise, using the inclined position helps prevent bone density loss which can lead to osteoporosis. Consult a doctor before beginning any treadmill training program. Before you train, make sure to stretch thoroughly. Good stretching before and after a workout can prevent injuries and strained muscles.

Build up to an inclination of three to five percent for best results. Don’t overdo it at first. A trainee should start out slow and gradually increase both the speed and incline. Go only as far as you can and still be comfortable. It is better to extend the time you spend on the treadmill than to exercise at inclines that are too much for your fitness level.

When training on a treadmill, whether the deck is in an inclined position or not, don’t hold on to the handles. Doing this reduces the effectiveness as a weight bearing workout. Keeping your hands moving at your sides works more muscles and burns calories better. Use a natural walking pace and form as you would if walking outside.

When you get comfortable with the pace and inclination of the deck, add speed and increase the incline on the treadmill. It’s best not to stay with a workout that is too easy, you will have less results and progress. Walk with the deck at an angle of at least one percent to best simulate walking outside. Start off your workout with a lower speed and incline, and gradually add both speed and slant in small increments through the first part of your training. Bring the speed and slope down slowly through the second half until you are back to where you started. Cool down and stretch when training is finished.

Walking an incline on treadmills can get boring, so keep yourself occupied. Put your TV in front of the treadmill. Watch your favorite television show and the time will fly as you train. Some of the better models come with a built in CD player. Listen to your favorite CD while walking. If you use music, make sure the pace of the music is adequate for the intensity level of your workout. Change your music frequently to avoid boredom while training on an inclined treadmill.
