A Spinning Exercise Bike – Good Home Machine For The
Advanced User
When considering a bike to purchase for our own home use, we can limit ourselves
to thinking in terms of the two main types of bikes, classified according to the
sitting position they offer – the upright and the recumbent bicycle. But there
is a third option that we might not consider in terms of home use, the
spinning exercise bike.
It is in fact one of the
best workout bikes available:
Spinning was an exercise phenomenon thought up by Johnny G. of Mad Dogg
Athletics that first received acclaim in Californian gyms, but soon after
spreading to fitness centers nation- and world-wide. The original spinning
concept centered on using the exercise bike in a fitness class setting, where
people could enjoy exercising together with the better benefit and guidance of
an instructor. But the bikes used for these classes were of a different strain
than usually used for solitary use, and the popularity of the intense workout
afforded by spinning bicycles resulted in many people choosing to purchase them
for home use.
The spinning bike offers a workout that, of all exercise bikes, is said to most
closely resemble a real outdoor road cycle. The single flywheel that is the
force behind the workout is tough to get going, and to maintain, providing
intense workouts suitable for more seasoned exercisers. Combined with a multiple
position seat and handlebars, and easily adjusted resistance controls, the
spinning bicycle offers one of the best workouts available. It provides good
cardio exercises, and great resistance training for the legs, and is much more
intense than working out on a non-spinning version. Some of the best models
available – Star Trac and Schwinn - are consistently reviewed as high quality
spinning bikes. But do beware – these models are not a wise purchase for a
beginner, but make a great machine for an exerciser looking for a new challenge.
